Google Maps Ask Maps Feature: Gemini AI Brings Conversational Navigation & 3D Routes
What is Ask Maps?
Google has added a new “Ask
Maps” button to the app, allowing users to interact by speaking or typing.
Instead of just typing destinations, you can now ask questions conversationally
— just like talking to a friend.
Examples:
- “Is it better to take a car or the
metro right now?”
- “Can I find good coffee along the
route?”
- “Suggest a place to watch live sports
and get vegetarian appetizers.”
Key Features
- Smart Suggestions:
Identifies suitable locations with details like ambiance, signature
dishes, valet parking.
- Personalized Results:
Remembers your preferences (e.g., vegetarian restaurants) and prioritizes
them in new cities.
- Follow-up Queries:
You can ask additional questions like “Which of these places offers
easiest parking?”
- Immersive Navigation:
Routes are displayed in 3D, showing tall buildings, flyovers, and
elevation changes for lifelike realism.
Availability in India
- Rollout has already begun in India
and the US.
- Available on Android and iOS.
- Currently supports English,
with Hindi support coming soon.
- Powered by data from 300 million
places and contributions from 500 million users.

routes, Maps is evolving from a simple navigation tool into a personal
