What is Ask Maps?

Google has added a new “Ask Maps” button to the app, allowing users to interact by speaking or typing. Instead of just typing destinations, you can now ask questions conversationally — just like talking to a friend.

Examples:

  • “Is it better to take a car or the metro right now?”
  • “Can I find good coffee along the route?”
  • “Suggest a place to watch live sports and get vegetarian appetizers.”

Key Features

  • Smart Suggestions: Identifies suitable locations with details like ambiance, signature dishes, valet parking.
  • Personalized Results: Remembers your preferences (e.g., vegetarian restaurants) and prioritizes them in new cities.
  • Follow-up Queries: You can ask additional questions like “Which of these places offers easiest parking?”
  • Immersive Navigation: Routes are displayed in 3D, showing tall buildings, flyovers, and elevation changes for lifelike realism.

Availability in India

  • Rollout has already begun in India and the US.
  • Available on Android and iOS.
  • Currently supports English, with Hindi support coming soon.
  • Powered by data from 300 million places and contributions from 500 million users.

Why It Matters
